I realise I am terribly behind but I’m working on learning to use this fantastic tool and eventually become a real pro. In the meantime, expect delays, rare posts and crappy nonsensical bits such as this one…

It might sound a little sad, but I’m actually alone in the flat drinking bubbly tonight. And there’s no place I’d rather be right now. I’m feeling a bit sentimental and needed some alone time, so hubby being out drinking with one of his mates suits me just fine.

It’s been an interesting and busy week, ending with a big big Friday. First post (after attending a school party, dancing till midnight) was to teach the other teachers, which is always a little bit daunting. They say teachers are the worst students. I think it went pretty well. Then it was the grand finale of our Great Big Fantastic Movie Project, and my class had some finishing touches to complete before the premiere. These turned out to take a bit longer than expected… Much thanks to tech skills held by some of my colleagues we managed to pull it off. And in the middle of this I had to graduate one of my favourite students who made me cry with his thank you speech and handed over a touching and thoughtful present at the end. Emotional indeed.

I feel pride and love for my students for doing all that work and finishing the project, and a twitch of sadness for the ones that have left. It sucks getting attached to people! But I wouldn’t miss it for the world.

So I turn up the fire and enjoy the time alone, processing everything that has happened over the last couple of weeks. And I will come out saner at the end of the night.

And of course, sometimes you just can’t beat the company of a chilled bottle of Lindauer. The closest (NZ) thing to champagne you can get on a budget.

And this is what I’m listening to tonight, when I’m in this mood…

Sufjan Stevens – For The Widows In Paradise, For The Fatherless In Ypsilanti

I absolutely adore his music, and I hope he manages to keep his promise to make an album for each of the 50 states of the USA. Although that would mean picking up the pace a little.

As I walked home from work this afternoon, I felt there was more of a warmth in the air than what I have experienced the last few months. So much rain and cold weather – even when the sun is out there is a chill in the air.

But today was different. A couple of the trees on our street had buds and even a few flowers had sprung out, lovely and pink and lucious. Someone next door were mowing their lawn. There’s nothing quite like freshly cut grass to make you think of summer.

spring has arrived in our street

Now that the sun is down it’s just as cold as usual in the flat. But I guess today’s a good start.

I just realised that the date on the previous post is still what it was the first time I signed up here at wordpress, and then gave up. So I have to carry with me that I chickened out the first time and live with that on this blog. Unless someone can tell me how to change that…?
